I've been watching the same pallet of servers be auctioned again and again for the last 6 months on GovDeals, probably because they're ITAR items with ECCNs and people show up without the required documentation to take custody of ITAR servers and it goes up for another round of auction

"i wake up" circle chart for the ITAR servers getting relisted again and again because no one bothers to bring the necessary paperwork

"those just look like Dell PowerEdges, why are they ITAR?" you may ask because they're repackaged as "security appliances" by a cyber security company that specializes in nuclear power otherwise they're literally just Dell PowerEdges

@alyx@frogs.lgbt so you're after PowerEdges or ITAR servers in particular?

@alyx@frogs.lgbt What paperwork do they want? There's no rules saying a random US citizen can't possess ITAR restricted stuff, e.g. my PVS-14 is ITAR controlled and I could buy it no problem. IIRC all I had to do was declare that I was a US citizen (I don't even think they wanted to see a passport etc) and that I understood I wasn't allowed to take it out of the country, give it to a foreign national, etc. And this was from an authorized dealer not some rando on eBay or something. If they are demanding that you be an ITAR registered company, that's a different story. But that normally only applies to *manufacturing* of defense articles, not possession

@alyx@frogs.lgbt I'm surprised they don't go down the list of bidders a bit before relisting it

@alyx@frogs.lgbt @cxberger@mastodon.boiler.social I wouldn't fucking be surprised if their platform didn't support it. Remember this is a website the U.S. government uses to get rid of things they don't care about anymore
