@mcnado That's an excellent point, and I regard this sort of political decision as circumstantial evidence of the peculiar fanaticism at work with the issue of abortion. It's a cult idol and it connects up weirdly with a lot of other central obsessions of the Christofascist crowd. They link it to their grotesque love-hate relationship with slavery for one thing, through some tortured legalistic justification that I can't be bothered to look up.

I think they're fundamentally terrified of aborting Second Jesus. it's a trope of Catholic horror (especially "The Omen" series, which is also explicitly "Christian Zionist") and I think it's a ludicrous fear. I mean...an omnipotent god being foiled by a terminated pregnancy? What sort of half-assed miracle needs protection from mortal medical procedures?
