to be honest, since posting this comment I've continued thinking about it and I feel like I've once again done a thing I tend to do where I used very, hm... objective? fact-y? statement-y? phrasing that probably overstates my actual feelings (or my conviction in those feelings) in a way that is more harmful than useful. I think I'll delete it for that reason, actually, but I do still have an interest in a discussion around the topic generally (perhaps elsewhere or elsewhen, as appropriate).
