@smeg In my experience, it's rare for a commute cyclists to use the cycle lanes. In fact, it's only the casual rider that uses them.
Cyclists seem to thjnk they're good enough for the Tour de France, yet they peak at 20kmph on the flat, maybe 30 downhill. When people have to travel about an hour on average to get to work (up to 2 hrs for some), that slowdown isn't very considerate of people needing what work they can get― urban sprawling.
It is, in a word, poorly planned and designed cities.
