When I was a child, all I wanted to do was move to a warm place. I thought it was much more realistic to move to a warm place than the buy warm bedding and a warm jacket and warm shoes and thermals, etc, etc.
In my 20s I realised it's actually viable to buy a warm doona and sleep in relative comfort for a few years off that. Plus it's possible to buy a jacket that works better than multiple kmart hoodies on top of each other. So I decided living in cold climates was fine.
After waking up too cold to sleep enough times in middle age, I've flipped my opinion back. The place to be poor is a warm place.
