If you have a spec you can write tests against, sure.
Ideally you'd have one person write the tests based on the spec and another write the code based on the spec so you can compare weather you have the same interpretation of the spec. :)
I don't think I've ever worked on something where writing tests like that would have been easier and less error-prone then writing the code

Repairing stuff as long as possible. Trying to do stuff with electronics and small computers. Failing to have more "look at this cool thing" than "look how bad this is" in my timeline.
