You can shoot a gun in space.
It will fire: Modern ammunition contains its own oxidizer, so a gun doesn't need atmospheric oxygen to work.
The bullet travels forever: Without air resistance or gravity, a fired bullet will travel indefinitely in a straight line until it hits something.
You will be pushed backward: Newton's third law means the recoil will propel the shooter in the opposite direction, potentially sending them drifting uncontrollably.
It's been done: The Soviet Union test-fired a 23mm cannon on the Salyut-3 space station in 1975.
So, while it's possible, the consequences—like creating eternal space debris or being flung backward—make it a very bad idea
