@sturmsucht Exactly, I've seen many of those aspiring new platforms use this narrative as marketing without really caring to actually make it anything other than a commercial platform. That point about Trump using code, from a free, open-source platform of all things, is such a reach. His administration has also used music from dozens of artists, from The Rolling Stones to Sabrina Carpenter, who came out and condemned him and his politics and asked for their music to not be associated with him. It means nothing. I'm not dunking on those who rely on their public presence to pay the bills, but that's mostly artists, performers, and creators, not huge shareholders. And I've seen many people who use Mastodon actually see a boost in their business and reach, so the "no one can make money" claim is also false.
