Colleagues at work shared this image from NCEI which graphs the historical "Continuous US Palmer Drought Severity Index" 1895-present. It depicts the latest assessment as worse than any single year in the dust bowl era and the concern is that the coming El Nino will only make things worse as the year progresses.
