In the generous left pocket of my dangerous blue coat, I carry the worst nightmare of those who like a poorly educated public: seditious leaflets. Common sense, fairness, kindness, and equality have long been the enemies of oppressors. In light of the current threats to democracy, I've added empathy, due process, and birthright citizenship.

Maybe someday, women's pockets can be no bigger than they need them to be to hold what we need to get through a day with no threats to our humanity. Until then, we'll make deep, generous pockets to hold the needs, hopes, and dreams of all.
