I know you want to see the best in people, but stop falling for papa Murphy take and bake bitches. Start looking for a grab and go kind of thing in your life.
Twenty minutes later they’re all napping again.
The bright SEARS MY VEINS
and my hands SMEAR THE STARS ACROSS THE SKY
the skin of the world is SPLIT APART
and I am SPILLING OUT
broke: “this schizoposting girlthing talking about how gods can speak to us through delusions needs help”
woke: saying nothing, just listening intently as the oracle is speaking
The oppressed shouldn’t have to discover a way to teach their oppressors to stop.
No really, I’m reading a book about the indigenous American struggle to do just this. Story after story is the same tune. They came up with a new strategy to get white people to listen and it failed. Over and over.
Not because they’re bad speakers, teachers or anything, no. Mostly just because they formed a really well-thought out argument, presented the data clearly, and spoke softly as to not offend…
…only for the people in charge of our “country” to shrug and say, “nah no thanks, we’re gonna keep doing the bad shit.”
like holy shit this is infuriating to read! I can’t imagine living through it
An abusive parent, for example, is a great example. If I just avoid the *behaviors*, I can emulate not being them, sure. I run the risk of becoming someone obsessed with my behavior and not introspecting on my core values.
To really avoid becoming an abusive parent, you have to really take yourself there. Mentally becoming them for a few minutes to understand how they justify their actions will take you leaps and bounds ahead of simply avoiding behaviors.
To me, that's when you can really become your own person.
