@Zahlenzauberin i feel like the dysphoria we feel about that has often been downplayed and invalidated by cis people who say shit like “everyone hates menstruation, it sucks for everyone”, which yes, is true, but that completely ignores the added layer of dysphoria. Cis women hate the pain and cramps and the mood problems and the inconvenience, but they don’t have the added feeling of “this is wrong, my body shouldn’t be capable of doing this. I’m bleeding from an area that shouldn’t even exist”. And they don’t have to deal with stuff like period products often being designed in a way that looks like it was intended to cause the maximum amount of dysphoria, underwear that doesn’t trigger as much dysphoria often being terrible at holding pads, men’s bathrooms usually not having bins, and the social component (the dysphoria of other people learning that we menstruate in situations where we can’t hide it such as when the pain is too bad or when we can’t hide the fact that we carry and use menstrual products, going to the bathroom to change them) - which for people who are stealth can also mean getting outed.

Being a (nonbinary) trans guy is fucking weird in this society. I experience all of the shit that cis women experience under the patriarchy and more, but at the same time my gender is similar to that of the assholes who are doing that and holding power and profiting under the patriarchy. It’s so easy to internalize the TERF narrative that me being a trans guy makes me a traitor to women, and the narrative that being oppressed under the patriarchy makes me a woman wether i like it or not. When in reality being trans is making me more marginalized, not less. It really feels bizarre when that idea of “feminism” (and it’s not just TERFs, this goes much deeper) joins forces with the patriarchy to try to force me “back” into womanhood.
It’s easy to frame this as coming only from other feminists, but it’s more than anything coming from myself. Every time I experience sexism, every time I experience sexual harassment, I end up hating an aspect of myself (the part of my gender that is male-ish). And every time sexist shit is done to me it also is a way to try to take away my gender, for cis male assholes to tell me “you are a woman, wether you like it or not. Being on the receiving end of this makes you a woman”. Or to say it (what society wants me to internalize) like this: “To be a man makes you the same as a perpetrator and to be a victim makes you a woman. So you are at fault for your own oppression.”

I’ve recently seen the acronym “LGBTI” be increasingly used instead of “LGBTQ” or “LGBTQIA” and it really annoys me because specifically taking the Q and the A out of the acronym is feeling weirdly personally directed at people like me, an aroace person. And also because aphobia and having an issue with the term “queer” are both sentiments that are not just extremely harmful on their own, they also have huge overlap with TERFism, and are often gateways to TERFism.
I’ve also seen all the authoritarian commie orgas suddenly start using it when they suddenly decided they wanted to pretend to care about queer issues (which they are bad at), so when i hear it I will immediately suspect some relation to those weird cultish groups. Those are the same people who will in other situations insist on talking about women when talking about things that affect people of marginalized genders generally, in situations where it’s completely normalized here to use the FLINTA* acronym instead. So in that light, the association with TERFism doesn’t feel that far fetched… and it infuriates me when those hypocrites say things about “LGBTI” in an attempt to seem more queer-friendly than they are, in order to recruit people to be exploited. Idk it just really rubs me the wrong way.
