Neat. Looks like Firefox doesn't bother querying for A records anymore when on an IPv6-only network.
Not sure how long that's been the case and need to dig into it but it's nice. Saving some packets.

I’m powering it with one of these now and a much more modern GaN charger so I’ve been meaning to measure again. It’s quite possible it makes a decent difference.

I've been reading IETF draft-martin-retry-over-ipv6-02 which proposes serving a HTTP 566 error code over IPv4 to indicate that a site is only available over IPv6.
I've thought about this before since I've been looking for a way to signal to IPv4-only clients that a site is not "broken", but that their endpoint is missing connectivity.
Needing to maintain a whole IPv4 stack to do it means it's good for transition, but maybe less useful longer-term.
I don't really see why browsers don't already gracefully handle the IPv6-only-site-on-IPv4-only-network situation. I wonder if it'd need a standard to exist before any would adopt it. And where that standard would live.

The UK NCSC are releasing some kind of inline display connection widget thing to “secure” HDMI and DisplayPort connections.
Really struggling to understand the threat model on this one… it seems so badly explained in the post.
Are they trying to suggest channels like EDID or HDMI CEC are actual threat vectors? Or maybe it’s an attempt to defend against people plugging in inline capture cards or something? (Can’t really see how that’d work anyway)

It occurs to me that if Bazzite inherits this config unmodified, then my Steam Deck should work on the IPv6-only VLAN just in time for No NAT November this year.
I might try and redo my attempt this year and see how much has changed since Nov 2024.

@scott Yeah, particularly ones which rely on literal IPv4 addresses internally since DNS64 can’t be used to rewrite those.
It does need a NAT64 gateway somewhere upstream to work though.
Great for IPv6-mostly home networks but also quite exciting for cheap v6-only VPSes and similar.
Nice — Fedora Engineering proposal for Fedora 45 to enable the CLAT support in NetworkManager by default.

Starting to get worried that when the AI bubble pops, all these companies left holding empty AI DCs will try and pivot hard to the “stream your PC from the cloud” model and consumer IT will just start to disappear.

Framework motherboard isn't booting again
On the plus side, the latest updates to the Asahi Fairydust kernel seem very stable so I can daily drive this MacBook even with external monitors.
The new "AI Kill Switch" in Firefox is a welcome addition, but did they really not hook this up to the Enterprise Policy framework? 
Doesn't seem to be affected by the existing GenerativeAI policy.

NetworkManager in nixpkgs-unstable should have all the fancy new CLAT code as it's at version 1.56.0 now
No such luck after pulling it in though. I had to go back to my horrible module that builds from the latest Git commit.
My build needed a bunch of BPF dependencies to get the CLAT support working, while the nixpkgs version bump bumped nothing but the version string and SHA so maybe I need to try and add those build-time deps upstream: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/commit/20f0d91b2273d998b83b46f11b3b229e93a1d5c7

Lazyweb: Does anyone have a good FreshRSS client for iOS that actually acts as a client?
I’ve tried a few, like FeedFlow, but the ones I’ve tried seem to download the list of feeds from the server and then fetch all the feeds locally.
One of the main reasons I’m self hosting FreshRSS is so my phone *isn’t* fetching 95 different feeds in the background :neocat_shocked:

@stefano I’ve noticed this. They show similar problems with macOS because they hallucinate command line options and flags that exist in the GNU/Linux versions of tools but not in the macOS versions which I assume have more BSD heritage.
