hey guys, here's my cute little poll about what if [giant list of every talking point people have about LLMs that have dominated global discussion for the last ~5 years] gets fixed? just wondering. by the way guys I'm not talking about LLMs at all here. haha sillyheads why would you think that was the case.

Whatever benefits LLMs/AI have given us have to be weighed against the absolutely catastrophic effects it's had on just about every aspect of society. Like, congratulations on writing your software tests with marginally less effort, I guess. All it cost was complete economic ruin and the destruction of basically all standards and norms. I'm glad for you, though.

If they need it or find it most comfortable, then they should have it. We do not get to say if their choice of AT is a right direction or not. UIs should be accessible to users with assistive technologies. Creating an alternative UI adds a new UI workflow that may or may not get updated in parallel with the other, tells users needing AT that they should be funneled to "the other space" instead of using the same pages and spaces everyone else does, and offers no guarantees of actually being more accessible anyway. Thinking on it, I am not sure how something "more similar to a console environment" would help visually impaired users if screen readers are also not the right direction. How would they perceive the console environment?

it does not help pointing to people using LLMs for legitimate reasons. It's other people using those same tools but then for nefarious purposes.

@wtay @lu_leipzig @downey I do not care if the project itself has plagiarized code or not. Claude is constructed, fundamentally and foundationally, off plagiarized code. PipeWire uses Claude to generate code. Plagiarized code, it seems, IS acceptable... as long as the damage and harm being done is at least one degree removed from PipeWire itself. Let somebody else do it. Don't put plagiarized code in the project itself, that would be *wrong*... but PipeWire will use and benefit off of tools constructed via mass theft. Is that the position?

Just completely steamrolling past consent and comfort and forcing themselves on people who don't want them. Feels like some serious masks-off kind of shit.

@wtay @lu_leipzig @downey If we're going to use the software that's a monolith to scraping and taking from other people, then your project is built on, powered by, and supported through, scraping and taking from other people. Can we talk about that? Has the Pipewire project settled on a number of how much of that is fine? Maybe only 1,000 repos and projects thrown into, without permission or respect for their licenses, the stochastic parrot tumbler is an acceptable amount for generating Pipewire code? 10,000? Does it matter specifically what the licenses on other people's works was? Maybe 100,000 of other people's works are fine, but the 100,001st would start raising eyebrows that something isn't looking right?

Literally everyone hates it and a layperson can see it's shit. That DF, *the* "video game visuals and tech analysis" guys, who count framerates and are aghast if a game's 1080p upscaled to 4k instead of true 4k, apparently see no problem is mindboggling. Favorite YT comment: "I can't believe the words I'm hearing over the footage I'm seeing."

This isn't the first time Digital Foundry's been uncannily positive on NVIDIA products. Being independent is expensive, it turns out.
