Before Your Eyes on Steam is down to $2: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1082430/Before_Your_Eyes/ Genuinely a very original game and an incredible experience. Not super long, but worth a few replays to see the different ways the story can play out. Play it on something with a webcam for the full experience. Also, it probably will make you cry. #videogames #steam

Spotify has been really pushing music from an artist called Kealux in my recommendations. Melodic dubstep along the lines of Blackmill or Seven Lions. Weirdly though, there is nothing on their profile page and no info about them online. And that's because it's all AI slop. :hurb: If you are in a similar situation and are curious to see if some bland, derivative artist is legit or AI, I found this useful website: https://spot-the-ai.com/list/ #supporthumans #music #ai #spotify

I'm tempted, but I don't see myself preordering a Steam Controller. I rarely use the trackpads on the Steam Deck and $99 is a little too pricey for me. For PC gaming, I am using an older Xbox One wireless controller (with a micro USB port!) and it still does everything I need. #steam #steamcontroller

Looks like the AI on Ubuntu situation won't be as bad as it originally seemed: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/the-future-of-ai-in-ubuntu/81130/41 "all of these capabilities will be delivered as Snaps to the OS, layered on top of the existing Ubuntu stack. That means there will always be the option of removing those Snaps - which I suppose acts as a sort of kill switch for the features we’re planning on shipping." All this stuff is planned as Snaps? 😂 Crisis averted.

Just a reminder that those #linux and #opensource applications you use daily require people to keep them alive and working. In a world where everything is driven by monetization, it is important to support the people who do it purely for the love of the project. If you can, consider supporting your favorite app or service with some cash.

Shoutout to Shortwave: https://github.com/maunalinux/shortwave I was disappointed to find that there is no official @somafm app for Linux, but Shortwave filled the void nicely. It has all my favorite SomaFM stations and many others from all over the world. 🎵 Fantastic app and a very easy install via Flatpak. And feel free to recommend other good internet radio stations that you like! #linux #music #opensource #internetradio

The Macbook Neo is interesting https://www.apple.com/macbook-neo/ I wonder how that A18 Pro iPhone chip compares to the original M1. Also, if the A18 Pro is capable of running MacOS well, I really want the ability to hook my iPhone up to a USB hub and monitor to run the full desktop OS (ala Samsung Dex https://www.samsung.com/us/apps/dex/).

In my professional life, I have to work with AI services and companies and am responsible for integrating some of those models into our infrastructure for use by others. It is more than a little concerning to see how attached people get to particular AI agents. When swapping one model or agent with something else, people behave as if I just killed their friend... which seems, um... not good. Strange times ahead for the human race, I fear 😓

I've heard some buzz about the uniball Zento line of pens, but hadn't bothered trying one because I typically don't care for gel ink. But I saw a clicky Zento 0.5mm in a stationary shop and bought it on a whim. Wow, yeah... I get it. The ink leaves a clean black line while writing very smoothly on the page. No smearing or feathering. Very nice! If you have any interest in pens, I highly recommend giving one a try. JetPens has a bunch in stock: https://www.jetpens.com/U...

Interesting Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thepoom/poom-pentest-play-create Basically a Flipper Zero and an Arduboy in one device, currently going for $99. It's a cool idea, but i'm probably going to skip it. I already have a Flipper that I rarely use and Arduboy games don't interest me at all. I'd be a lot more tempted if I didn't have a Flipper Zero though.

I've been travelling a lot for work recently. And while I love the Steam Deck, it takes up a ton of bag space. I went looking for something a little more travel-friendly, and found the AYANEO Air Plus: https://ayaneo.com/product/AYANEO-AIR-Plus-Mendocino.html It's about the size of a Switch while being similar in power to the Deck. I installed Bazzite on it and it works great! Ayaneo doesn't sell this model anymore, but there are plenty available on eBay. Worth checking...

Just discovered that Tony's Chocolonely is a Dutch brand. With a name that dumb, I always assumed it was American. At the same time, I became aware that Toblerone (one of my all-time favorites) is owned by Mondelez International and is no longer manufactured in Switzerland. 😢

If you're an Apple Reminders user, maybe give TickTick a try: https://ticktick.com/ There is a very full-featured version that is absolutely free, the app is available on every major OS, and it feels much more intelligently designed than Reminders. Also, you can sync or migrate Reminders to TickTick using the iOS app. Very easy process.

Update on my Mac to Linux migration. Here are some of the apps I have moved to: Browser: Safari -> Brave Mastodon: Ivory -> Tuba Tasks: Reminders -> TickTick Images: Photos/Pixelmator -> Darktable/GIMP (maybe Krita? Still experimenting) Other apps are unchanged. Spotify, Mullvad VPN, 1Password, Steam. Have not found a good email client yet (using the web) and finding a cloud drive service with a Linux-native app has been surprisingly difficult. #linux

Visiting a state in the southern US. No rental car, so i'm taking a lot of Ubers and Lyfts to get around. Every car radio has been tuned to a Christian station. One song was just a guy singing "I Believe in God!" over and over. There was a commercial for the radio station with a woman saying how they need this service because otherwise "people would forget God exists". The tagline of the station was "WORSHIP NOW!" Apparently &qu...
