Democracy requires transparency in order to survive. There must be a free and honest exchange of information to facilitate collective decision-making. Yet, Trump and his people flout laws regarding record keeping by tearing up and flushing memos, channeling information via Signal and its disappearing message, and sanctioning/expelling the journalists who dare to question the admin or report on events truthfully. And, of course, the heaps and heaps of LIES. Poison in the water.

Two days on the newly completed Adirondack Rail Trail. 34 mile car free stretch from Lake Tupper to Lake Placid. We hit rain on the way back, but a quiet, misty ride through the lakes and pines was lovely, and we practically had the trail to ourselves. Packed cinder with a short paved sector west of Lake Saranac. #cycling #biketooter

Soviet style show trial being conducted in the U.S. Senate today. These calls for self-flagellation were also seen during China’s Cultural Revolution. https://nypost.com/2026/07/29/us-news/bernie-moreno-goes-off-on-fauci-during-senate-covid-hearing/

MAGA is an unreality machine. Mainstream journalism aids and abets by soft-pedaling the lies and obfuscation. “Unusual new accounting system.” https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/26/us/politics/pentagon-casualties-iran-war.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share

Why does MAGA undermine science? Deny and erase history? Poison the information ecosystem? 1. Because authoritarians must be the only source of truth. 2. Because disoriented subjects depend on the regime for security. 3. Because nihilism is an effective way to divide and rule. MAGA wants us mind-fucked and swindled. No facts. No truth. No democracy.

American capitalism has reached the “what’s the least we can offer to suppress/defuse your rage” stage. Would a $300 stimulus check and a $1000 investment account for your kid be enough to persuade you to put down the pitchfork?

The MAGA/MAHA attack on science and vetted knowledge will have grave consequences long after Trump and Co. have exited the stage.

RE: https://www.threads.com/@bulwarkonline/post/DbJm7svDYwE Sorry, no. Big tent means making space for friends on the left and taking seriously their concerns. The party of Chuck Schumer isn’t big enough, young enough, or diverse enough to win back all the seats we need to begin repairing the damage. #uspol #democracy

Trump continues to lie and push misinformation regarding election fraud. He’s poisoning our democracy by sowing distrust. Here are the facts re: election integrity in the U.S. Anyone parroting Trump or simply feeling unsure of where things stand should review the data. This is from the American Bar Association, which is strictly non-partisan. https://www.americanbar.org/groups/public_interest/election_law/american-democracy/our-work/speaker-discussion-guides/understanding-american-electi...

Stephen Miller and JD Vance are dangerously deluded outliers. “Nearly eight in ten Americans (77%) say they would prefer the U.S. to be a nation made up of people from all over the world, while just 20% say they would prefer the U.S. to be a nation primarily made up of people of Western European heritage.” Source: https://prri.org/research/competing-visions-of-america-politics-religion-and-american-identity/

RE: https://mstdn.social/@DemocracyMattersALot/116914967841374800 “Drove his/her vehicle in the direction of an agent/officer” is the 21st C. version of “shot while attempting to escape.” That was a Nazi refrain in the lead-up to the dictatorship.

First they get you to despise independent media and then they launch their assault. “The appearance of federal law enforcement agents on the doorstep of news reporters should shock the conscience of any American who believes in the Constitution and the press freedom it protects,” said David McCraw, The Times’s top newsroom lawyer, in a statement on Friday evening. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/11/business/media/new-york-times-trump-subpoenas.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share

Impossible to do collective problem solving without a clear, accurate picture of reality. In a nation that’s misinformed and, therefore, impotent, only THE LEADER can “fix” it. No facts. No truth. “Evil begins with the human capacity to talk oneself into. Nothing in the nature around us is evil. This needs to be repeated since one of the human ways of talking oneself into inhuman acts is to cite the supposed cruelty of nature. Cruelty is the result of talking oneself into the infliction of pain or into the conscious ignoring of pain already inflicted. The wolf doesn't talk itself into anything.” —John Berger (1989)

Doesn’t matter what the costs are or what the price tag means for the future. The point is, the era of big government spending is over, so quit whining about food and gas and go pull yourselves up by your bootstraps, while we deplete Amarica’s arsenal and help ourselves to whatever slush fund we see fit. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/4/30/25bn-or-1-trillion-how-much-has-iran-war-really-cost-the-us
