  If you are switching to #Linux but not ready to commit, best thing you can do is look for linux programs that also run on windows and learn how they work. Replace MS Office with LibreOffice, replace Photshop with GIMP, replace Outlook with Thunderbird, etc; When in doubt, google for "linux alternative to..." will give you an idea of what to install.

  One of the oft overlooked bonuses of a non-algorithm based feed like fedi's is that I can talk about something like how I just started reading Dungeon Crawler Carl, and not be inundated with spoilers. Almost done the first book and really enjoying it.   Re-learning how rc scripts work in Slackware, after having lived in Ubuntu and Arch land and living with systemd for over a decade. It's such a breath of fresh air. I can see ways to improve them, but they would be *my* improvements.

  Yo maybe I'm late to the party but is Dropline #GNOME abandoned? I know this was a popular way to install gnome on Slackware Linux at one point, but I see the forums are defunct and the latest install instructions are for Slackware 14.1. I was interested mainly so I could document it, but maybe there is no good way to install GNOME on Slackware these days.

  I think that my biggest gripe with git is that when your local matches your remote, doing a git pull gives you "Already up to date" with no hyphens, and doing a git push gives you "Everything up-to-date", similar wording but with hyphens. What kind of sick freak decided that was okay?

  When I was younger, I used to think that knowing more programming languages made you a better program. And in some ways I still think that. But the only for loop I have memorized the syntax for is the C for loop. Any other language, I have to look up to make sure the for loop is the same as C's or if it's something different. I haven't coded in C in like over a decade.

  @hk The thing with Big Tech is that it usually isn't. I think tech enthusiast as a term can safely preclude that. I am also fine with "geeks" or "whales" being a term reserved for big tech over-consumers.
