Thinking of making a personal web homepage that just aggregates all the relevant data in the morning. But as I think about how to architect this I realized I am reinventing PHP.

@vladh You can run the software inside qemu and count instructions for highly comparable results. But I think the already suggested holistic benchmarks are pretty good and likely more practical. The problem of differences between hardware/environments(e.g room temps/ power supply efficiency) can be mitigated with an automatic benchmark that you can run as a reference point for your own hardware. For me the idea seems to correlate with performance work in general.

@bagder I'd be tempted to just say it's not compliant. What are they gonna do? Not use libcurl?

@Quinnypig That's a pretty low TC for the market, add to that the fact of working for accenture and I frankly can't imagine anyone staying long there.

@anthrocypher I think I've genuinely got to know more people just on my bus/train commute than from tech meetups. But getting to taste all the pizza places in the city and trying different craft beers was also fun.

@glyph @xgranade I do feel like we have already progressed quite a bit from the original transformers paper(rotary embeddings, sparse/chunked attention,MoE(which I frankly don't understand myself)) seems to be standard in every new model. Then there's the whole field of "linear attention" (RWKV my beloved ♥️), which is constantly catching up and has a lot of research directions and hacks similar to pre-transformer era deep learning architectures

@YKantRachelRead I feel ashamed of myself, I've probably seen that person during the event, had I just walked around more and like paid attention more into how people feel this could've been prevented. I got extremely lucky to have found friends that I could trust when I had my own panic attack at 39c3. But I should've done more and now they're gone and I hate myself for how powerless I feel

@Edent WebRTC supports p2p but has a STUN TURN server for either finding peers or proxying traffic if p2p fails to connect. My guess as to why this isn't already a thing is that bandwidth requirements scale with the square of call participants. Audio mixing is surprisingly heavy. I know apps like zoom and Google meet put alot of effort in coordinating with mobile devices(I think it's called mediacapabilities) to make sure they don't eat the battery.

@geonews It's fine. Seems to work normally with a US VPN. Thank you
