This is cool - the prolonged dry weather has revealed the outline of ‘The Great Parterre’ beneath the South Lawn at #Chatsworth. It was a #garden created for the 1st Duke of Devonshire around 1699 and it disappeared beneath a new landscape in the 1730s. The hot, dry conditions created contrast between the shallower-rooted turf and the original garden layout, and have allowed its spectacular swirling patterns to re-emerge. The main door into 900 yr old Haddon Hall and approximately 500 years old itself. This may be one of my all time favourite old doors. I love how weather worn it is, and how it sits in such a shonky corner of the castle courtyard. #doorsday #doorthursday #medieval #derbyshire

Not so #silentsunday We demolished Dad&#39;s shed today and got it into the skip. In the process we encountered this abandoned wasp nest which I couldn&#39;t help but admire as it is so beautifully constructed. The first 2 photos are mine, the 3rd is off the Internet just to give some idea of what it would have looked like in situ (I found it on the floor, after we&#39;d pulled the roof down). #magicinthemundane #nature #waspnest

#WIPWednesday Before and after. Last time I tooted about this piece I wasn&#39;t at all happy with it. A couple of weeks on and I&#39;ve added more texture and shading, and some ox eye daisies and foxgloves (as everything is better with daisies and foxgloves) and... I think I&#39;m done!

For #firstfridayArtWalk here&#39;s a fabric collage inspired by a winter I spent in Andalusia. I wanted to remember the layers of buildings clustered up steep hillsides, shadows on the cobbles from the low sun, the oranges, and the ever present threat of a sudden storm. #photomonday - St Ann&#39;s Well, a 5000 year old geothermal spring which rises to the well from ½ a mile/1 km below ground and emerges at a steady 27 °C (80 °F). A 16th-century act of Parliament ruled that a free supply of the spring water must be provided for the town&#39;s residents. It just occurred to me how rarely I take pictures of people nowadays. Before the internet I took candid photos all the time - as I love people watching. The stolen moments were just for my own photo albums/travel journals, so it felt ok... ish. Now, my shots are empty, people less, or the people are background only, hopefully unrecognisable... This digital age is already too intrusive and to me it feels wrong... but it makes me #sad and I just realised, more disconnected somehow...
