Python, Perl, and C language systems programmer on UNIX. All puns are welcome here. I read so many light novels that I spend much of my free time with an online light novel book club. I'm interested in most creative stuff, but I lose interest if it is sales instead of showing. I don't post that much, also check my pinned introduction. #wss366

I did a lot of mansplaining in my 20s without meaning to. Seriously, someone I respected told me that it is important that when I learn something from someone, I should say it back to them so they can correct anything I lost in the learning. I can pretend that I don't still shake with embarrassment when I found out how so many women took that repeat-back that I was literally taught to do... but no, I still bury my head in my hands from those memories.

"Oh, wow, nice rack." Sue looked at him to see where he was looking. 'He's fine,' she thought, and decided to meet him where he's at. "It's the same model Linus has in his basement, though I didn't get the orange paint job." "Oh, I'm much more excited by the equipment. Do I see a vintage SunBlade?" "That's not vintage, it's from 2006." "W...

This seemed so simple: Content Warning on politics. But everything is "political" to someone now. Different people have vastly different ideas of what that means, and I'm not smart enough to know what to do with this now.

Just a reminder that using money to buy things is not capitalism. Using money to finance someone else's work, and then expecting perpetual rise in the investment value from their ongoing effort is capitalism. Jill makes a tool, I buy the tool ; simple commerce, I don't bother Jill again unless I want to buy another tool. I capitalism Jill, I get nothing now, but I bug her every ~92 days asking for reports on what value I could extract from my capital, and can threaten her if I...

What most folks seem to not realize is that, for the most part, AI improvements at this point are accidents as it's been clear for a while that AIs are being trained to impress the investment class, and not to impress experts. But for AI to become useful to experts it will have to become less tuned for impressing non-experts.
