@mactunag read somewhere that the Scottish Parliament may have approved a referendum for Scottish independence. Is that true? And what does a referendum mean? What are your thoughts? (If you care to answer, a valid respond is to tell me to google it)

We just concluded a primary election here in California. It seemed to be a bigger deal outside of California than in. Lots of folks online (and not in CA) were getting heated about the governor primary, and here in the state, it was a pretty boring election.

@Felis_Catus_Domesticus@mstdn.party > Great beaches? Nice weather? Ha ha ha! No. But the Tex Mex is really good! Seriously, soooo good. But I'd still rather live in California 😃

The company is holding the last two days of April for #AI Immersion Days. We are supposed to drop everything and brainstorm uses of “AI” at the company. I loathe this so much. I don't think I'm going out on a limb by saying that I think "AI" is awful. It's theft. It harms the planet. It makes people paranoid. And it's useless. In that, there is no use for "AI" that benefits me, much less the company, and especially not humani...

#AI Someone(s) have lost the plot. Is it me? On LI, I saw two posts from people I consider smart, or at least listening to. 1) First one is an exec. 2) Second is career professional. \1

#introductions are for chumps. Here's a game of Two Realsies and a Whopper instead. 1. I've taken a baseball bat to the face. Twice! 2. I've been propositioned for sex in a rest-stop bathroom. 3. As a teenager, a priest lovingly massaged my feet while singing to me.

@conradhackett But since religion (esp. Evangelical) tracks so closely with politics, I argue it's hard to disentangle them. And that we shouldn't try to, either. I know the point of the research isn't to judge, but I judge these reality deniers harshly. Their entrenched beliefs are destroying the world and preventing good policy that will preserve the Earth for my children.

Finally! I can reveal what I was lying about! It was "Hit in the face twice with a baseball bat" I've only been hit in the face ONCE with a baseball bat. But I have taken a pole to the face twice. The first time it was a tetherball pole (the kind they used to cement into tires so it was mobile and teetering). Five stitches to my seventh-grade forehead. The second time was a baseball bat. It bounced off the ground while I was playing catcher. Seven stitches in my nint...

@charliejane To the best of my understanding, what-aboutism isn't a real logical fallacy, but relative privation is. But the former is a colloquial stand-in for the latter. But this is not a case of relative privation. TERFs are terrible because they prioritize hurting transfolks instead of promoting feminist causes. That is, there is no general welfare that is advanced by being a TERF. We are rejecting the TERF argument not in favor of a more important one, but an actual harmful one.

@gwynnion My radical philosophy only acknowledges a person's actions. Their inner thoughts are meaningless to whether I judge them as a good or bad actor. Actor, that's the word I'm going to use for moral agents.

I just spend over an hour trying to get the page numbers to reset in a #Microsoft #Word document, so that page 1 began on the second sheet. I did it, finally, but if asked to repeat (which I'll have to do in about a month), I don't think I'd be able to replicate my work.

@jalefkowit@octodon.social I love everything about this. I have absolutely zero notes. Once Alan Thicke was announced as a host, I was pumped and ready! Omg, the hair, leotards, the vapid soundtrack. And the sponsor! This is pure distilled nostalgia injected right into my veins.

@caroline @erl I have read—but cannot confirm—that monkey at the time of the original Margaret and H. A. Rey publication (~1941), monkey was a synonym for all simians including apes and only later came to be exclusively used for non-apelike simians.

I feel like the occasion of #ConvictionDay should be a national holiday. Maybe like GuyFawkes Day in the UK? I am not a great composer (nor a violent man), but I was thinking of writing a short #bagpipes tune to commoriate. If I do it (lack of skills not withstanding) what should it be?
