Ryoichi Ando announced that ZOZO's physics engine for Blender has been released as open source. It is based on his SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 paper. Looks neat! https://www.reddit.com/r/blender/comments/1ti5bbh/a_new_opensource_physics_engine_for_blender_zozos/

Recently graduated Waterloo PhD student Ryusuke Sugimoto (who Toshiya Hachisuka and I supervised together) has won both a Eurographics Best PhD Thesis Award and the Alain Fournier Award (for Outstanding [Canadian] Doctoral Dissertation in Computer Graphics), for his excellent work on Monte Carlo methods for solving PDE problems in computer graphics. Ryusuke is now an ISTA Fellow (postdoc) in Chris Wojtan's lab in Austria. https://rsugimoto.net/ https://www.eg.org/wp/eurographics-awards-p...

We have a fun new paper to appear at SIGGRAPH 2026, led by Columbia PhD student Xiana Carrera, that extends dual contouring to work nicely with [pure] signed distance samples. It avoids classic DC's additional requirement of providing accurate Hermite / normal information, while still nicely recovering sharp features. https://gatc.cs.columbia.edu/projects/dual-contouring-of-signed-distance-data.html

When I hear the youth saying "low-key" in every other sentence, I prefer to instead imagine they are invoking the Norse trickster god Loki.

For computer graphics academics and researchers, I threw this list of folks together. Apologies if I've forgotten anyone or included anyone who prefers to be forgotten! Let me know if there are any errors or corrections. Hoping this will help folks migrating from the birdsite. 🙂 https://christopherbatty.github.io/Mastodon-Graphics-Academics/
