<p>I write build tooling these days and still enjoy making developer's lives easier. I spent 21 years at Sun Microsystems, Inc, working on and around Solaris, and then a while at Joyent.</p><p>I do miss the old days a bit, but rose-tinted glasses and all that... I now use FreeBSD on my personal systems where I can. I have many hobbies, one of which is keeping my old Series Land Rover running.</p><p>Co. Look, I know this is an apples (sorry) to oranges comparison, but I can&#39;t help thinking that when we&#39;re getting excited about a 42hr battery life for a watch, we&#39;ve made a wrong turn somewhere. Casio G-Shock Tough Solar battery life: est. 15-20 years. #casio #gshock

I tootled into Downpatrick (its cathedral said to be the burial place of the man himself) late on St. Patrick&#39;s day, in the Land Rover. I was struck by some senses of Irish identity: people with shamrock face-paint, tricolours wrapped around the shoulders, even the odd wave to my old green car, but also the more sinister: republican scarves and sunglasses on a cloudy day. Let&#39;s hope the positive aspects of being Irish remain the norm, particularly in this place, yeah? #stpatri...
