  I think I'd be less annoyed by the way that air travel now involves having your picture taken repeatedly at various checkpoints if they let you buy a copy of all of them at the end like you'd gone down a log flume or something.

  I think Amazon forgot that my particular Kindle exists, so they didn't include it in the "we're shutting off support" note but it certainly seems like they've shut off support. In a way it is good when companies do this, because it gives me the kick I needed to migrate off onto more open platforms, which I probably wouldn't have done as long as I was still getting seamless library loans.

  My in-laws' condo in Cebu City only has analog TV reception so I get to relive real over-the-air, black and white static on the missing channels. They're going to think I'm so weird if I'm still staring at this when they get back from dinner.

  Been reading Natasha Schüll's Addiction by Design, since the entire US economy, legal system, and now software engineering is just a series of slot machines, and folks It's a good book But it's extremely fucking grim.

  In general I do think the Pervert Glasses from Facebook and whoever else are bad and should be banned, but on the other hand I do wish there were a way to capture the things that flash by when I'm traveling, like the coffee shop named "Ugly Baristas" that we just drove past.

  Really sad to hear that Nell Greenfieldboyce was let go from NPR this week. She is a great science reporter, but I'll always remember her as the passionate union steward who sat in on my last few meetings with management there. A good comrade to have on your side.

  The level of context collapse around "AI" is one of the most frustrating aspects of this bubble, especially when I'm trying to address artificially-heightened expectations that management have received from headlines like this. AI doesn't have anything to do, really, with converting spectrograms into audio.
