I put down some straw for mulch over the winter and now we have a small patch of volunteer grain ready to harvest from the seeds that were in it.

Yesterday, at about noon, I saw a dark colored dog with short legs running up the hill. Then there was another that looked just the same. That's when I realized they were coyotes, out for a jog.

"Coachella 2026: Violent winds disrupt festival, campgrounds" Sorry. I should have soaked the beans longer.

Went out to see a guy I'd talked to at the bar play country, both covers and originals, and he was really good. There were six of us in the audience, so I'm really glad I showed up.

Online guitar lesson #2, five minutes in: "This is stupid! My fingers are too short and fat for this bullshit! Guitars are dumb!"

Well, my "Imma learn play guitar" guitar just fell over and the headstock broke right off the neck. It wasn't even much of a fall, so WTF Fender? Two days. I owned it two days. But I did pay for two years damage protection so I think I'll be able to get a replacement. Grrr. ETA: Somehow in my annoyance I blamed Gibson, when I should have blamed Fender.

I'm so old I remember when "Best [Insert Category Here]" lists were actually hands-on reviews of products and not just an excuse for a bunch of Amazon Affiliate links.

It's probably a bit too early in the season to wear a straw hat. But I do look cute in it.

Oh hey. My Cake Day on Reddit was six days ago and I totally missed it. That feels like progress.

I barely heard Traffic's "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" on a bar playlist over the crowd noise last night, but it was enough for the song to take possession of mind as it always does. So today when I'm reading a Wikipedia article about the UK band The Locomotive having a minor hit in 1968 with an original ska song "Rudi's in Love" and see that their saxophonist was Chris Wood who later joined Traffic, I start following links relate...

For some reason I just remembered how when our son was 10 his friend's dad took them to see Spielberg's film Lincoln, but he thought they were going to see Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter and so he spent the entire movie waiting to find out which members of Congress were secretly vampires.

Yesterday I cooked lentils. Today I cooked pearl couscous. What small, round thing shall I cook tomorrow? Peas?

I made a big pot of really delicious coffee and then 2/3 of the way through it my wife pointed out I'd accidentally used the decaf.

I just wrote the word "people" and never has any arrangement of letters looked more like complete and total gibberish to me than that. Who thought that spelling was a good idea?

RE: https://fosstodon.org/@fosstodon/116432082951837156 I've been seeing warnings about mastodon.cloud for a while, but it just now clicked. I have an account on there that I haven't used since 2017 and had totally forgotten about. Deleted.

I've never really thought about it before but now I'm wondering why the cake in "MacArthur Park" took so long to bake. I mean if it was a really big cake I suppose it could take an hour or so, but that really isn't that long in the grand scheme of things. Still a shame to just leave it out in the rain like that though.

I really am not enjoying how frequently I see a news aggregation site and one of the top stories is about a celebrity a few years younger than me dying.

Supposedly it's only like 30% humidity outside, but we just got so gross doing not a whole lot of physical labor I took a second shower. I wonder if up here in this kind of bowl above the city we've trapped a layer of moisture because it feels way more humid than that.
