I barely heard Traffic's "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" on a bar playlist over the crowd noise last night, but it was enough for the song to take possession of mind as it always does. So today when I'm reading a Wikipedia article about the UK band The Locomotive having a minor hit in 1968 with an original ska song "Rudi's in Love" and see that their saxophonist was Chris Wood who later joined Traffic, I start following links related to my morning earworm. And that's how I learned Dave Mason died three days ago. He didn't write "Low Spark" — that was Jim Capaldi — but he did write this gem, which Joe Cocker did a fantastic cover of.
