  The one cool thing about closed loop water usage of data centers is how they can only save water if we invest heavily on renewables. Otherwise, the heat only gets moved to where they consume more electricity to dissipate it and that will be powered by consuming more water.

As always, "Volta" starts by charging more for plastic packaging and then eventually you can redeem it. But there's no incentive to make redemption actually work, so you just get charged more.   Developers everywhere are using LLMs to get unstuck or try something new. You can get the flamethrower and ban all the Claude commits but that's only glancing the surface. People don't need to ship LLM code to do security audits, pinpoint bugs and bounce ideas, specially if they're working alone. We can all be benefiting from LLMs and still criticise abusive data centers and the many AI grifts. It's ethical consumption under capitalism all over again.

  I keep saying that any serious plan to introduce #ai in schools (whatever that means), has to include learning #philosophy as early as possible. Put down the google/microsoft subscriptions. Ban smartphones in classrooms. How do we know anything is true? Can you think for yourself and ask good questions? Can you feel how your choice of words molds your rationale?

  If #AI is in a railway mania bubble, where's its lasting decentralised infrastructure? Compute data centers are a question mark tied up with how fast the software is evolving.   An optimistic take of #genAI is that it lowers barriers allowing more people to iterate on their creative ideas. Thing is, they may not care to know that, they don't iterate on their first dopamine hit. Average slop, by definition, gets shipped as is by half the people.   Can thinking really be defined as a flat sequence of conversational tokens? Feels like LLMs are missing something more chaotic where different principles could be pulling the chain-of-thought in different directions which could even be contradictory. Not sure if this can recreated with several LLMs playing different roles for that internal "monologue". How does that conversation get resolved? What hierarchies can emerge and be dissolved?
