I’m old enough to have grown up with candles in the dining room cupboards for the power cuts. Now I have solar panels on my roof, and a battery in my loft. 🤷‍♀️

The most worrying thing about this photo (from Glasgow, when I was there for the last Commonwealth Games in 2014) is that implies the existence of non-quality bagpipes. Or maybe just inferior quality shops and the bagpipes are the same quality everywhere?

It’s the 842nd anniversary of the Erfurt Latrine Disaster today, when a castle floor collapsed and saw about 60 nobles to drown or suffocate in a cesspit. Mmm. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erfurt_latrine_disaster This has naturally sent me down a wiki wormhole. For your consideration: Toilet related injuries and deaths: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toilet-related_injuries_and_deaths List of people who have died while on the toilet: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_who_have_...

Popped into a new restaurant today to see if we could get in for an early dinner tomorrow. No, they’re full, which is great. Whilst there, one of the waiters stopped and rolled the sleeve up of my t-shirt to check out my tattoo. “Lovely tattoo. Where did you get it done?” “Most of it at vellum round the corner” “Oh. Here? Not in Malaysia?” At this point, he lost interest and wandered off. I think he was of Malaysian origin. It did get me thinking though. My tattooist is Australian and she does...

What the fuck is wrong with focusing on the football? This superfluous bullshit is embarrassing and demeans the whole thing.

    Well, that ruins Bastille Day.

On my first #BastilleDay as a French citizen, I’d just like to point out that, not only is La Marseillaise an absolute banger, but the lyrics are superbly bloodthirsty. — Let's go children of the fatherland, The day of glory has arrived! Against us tyranny's Bloody flag is raised! (repeat) In the countryside, do you hear The roaring of these fierce soldiers? They come right to our arms To slit the throats of our sons, our friends! Grab your weapons, citizens! Form your battalions! Le...

“AMERICA IS A GUN” by Brian Bilston ( @brianbilston@mastodon.online) England is a cup of tea. France, a wheel of ripened brie. Greece, a short, squat olive tree. America is a gun. Brazil is football on the sand. Argentina, Maradona’s hand. Germany, an oompah band. America is a gun. Holland is a wooden shoe. Hungary, a goulash stew. Australia, a kangaroo. America is a gun. Japan is a thermal spring. Scotland is a highland fling. Oh, better to be anything than America as a gun.

I’ve never done an #Introduction post, so... I’m Tim. I have #MultipleSclerosis, and although that’s only a part of me, it’s shaped my life hugely since diagnosis (in 2009, after 4 years of symptoms). I’m a much kinder person than I used to be and I’m grateful for that, even if the disease itself is a bastard. I used to run marathons, but #MS eventually put paid to that, so now I swim in a lake and row on a river instead. I try to focus on what I have and not what I’ve lost. I have an MA in m...

Did I ever tell you about the time a photo of me watching Shakin’ Stevens at Glastonbury with a cup of wine and a croissant became an advert in Egypt? (At this gig, Shakey uttered the words you never want to hear, “here are some songs from my new album”. There was an audible groan. Some lads had brought into the festival an actual green door, and he didn’t even play it! WTF!)

A beautiful day for marshalling at #parkrun ! Gorgeous swim in the lake and a sauna afterwards too. What a way to start the weekend. And they let me loose with the chalk again.

I’ve not watched one minute of the IPL this year. As a cricket fan, I find I just don’t give a shit. Now the domestic season has started, I’d much rather just pop to Trent Bridge. #cricket

Got a new pair of trousers. I am cursed with a body shape that means I’m destined to have baggy waists if I want the trousers to fit everywhere else. Tall/skinny man problems, I know. Oh well.

Just watched “I Swear” and moved by John Davidson’s story, but also infuriated by the entirely avoidable position that the bbc and the baftas put him in. Jesus Christ, did they not even watch the damn film? Anyway, it’s well worth 90 minutes of your time if you haven’t seen it.

I had a terrible night with leg spasms last night. Very little sleep and just the awful inability to get comfortable, never mind to nod off. After pumping all night, they’re then so fatigued the next day too. Better today (I even managed some rowing this morning), but I now find myself dreading going to bed in case it happens again. It feels so arbitrary and all the gabapentin, baclofen, analgesics and medical cannabis in the world sometimes just won’t touch it. #FuckMS #MS #MultipleSclerosis

I have a lot of time for Pedro Sanchez. This neatly encapsulates the last 24 hours: “The Spanish government will not applaud those who set the world on fire just because they show up with a bucket”.

@Thayer I did read that worming treatment in drops on the fur can mean that it’s harmful to baby birds because of the insecticide. I don’t know if that’s true, but that’s what the Guardian was saying and it stopped me in my tracks.

Are you a nerd? Do you think someone you know might be a nerd? Find out by asking these two simple questions: 1) what was the name of the sword that was broken? 2) what was its name when it was reforged? No prizes. Definitely no winners.

Let me guess, someone has just made a lot of money anticipating Trump’s latest remarks on Iran. What foresight! Absolutely no juicing of the market here. No siree.

I thought about rowing tonight, but at the lake this morning, I swam through wind, a squall, sunshine, hail and a persistent wind. Maybe not, eh? Sauna was good though.

I’ve spent my week at work wrestling with copilot to get a sensible report made from 3 data sets. It frustratingly seems to do a good job, but it comes up with slightly different results every time I do it, which is a worry. It feels like it’s almost there, but not really close enough to be jumping up and down and saying this is the future. The prompts you use are critical, as is a basic understanding of what you’re asking it to do so you can step in and steer the results. #AI
