  I think a lot about the scene in Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse where Kathryn Hahn’s Dr. Olivia “Doc Ock” Octavius returns after chasing 3 spider-persons escaping from Alchemax Lab. She neutralizes a threat, meets Kingpin on his level, then rises above him.

  @_Davidsmith I also hear a faint whistle like the start of mic feedback loop, and I can modulate it by open/closing my mouth a bit. I’m waiting for a firmware update to see if it improves, and if not I’ll take them to an Apple Store for diagnostics. I’ve had APP1 and 2 before this. Both have gotten noticeably better ANC each gen, and for me the fit got worse going 1 to 2, but the 3s fit better again. I wish the transparency mode didn’t feel so tinny on the 3s, but again maybe it’ll get a fix

  @marcoarment I just listened to your after show about a failing keyboard. You’ll need to follow me for a second on this: I had a 2011 MacBook Air that was past end of life and I was trying to load a much newer Mac OS version using some patcher thing. Turns out that in some mode, ext kb and mice don’t work in high speed mode. The fix was a usb 2.0 hub just for things that only actually needed usb “full speed” 12mb/s just for input devices to force a compatibility mode. https://www.amazon.com/g...

  @siracusa I once had someone create a PayPal.co.uk account with the same email I use for PayPal.com. I called (!) PayPal and asked them to un-bind my email from the UK account and the number of times I had to call back and re-associate my email with the .com one is > 1, which is too many. I now have a registered .co.uk PayPal account that I don’t want because it was easier to keep it and confirm it than to get it removed from my email.   @christianselig I saw someone else suggest oxyclean, but I’ll do one better. Get a powdered cleaner called PBW designed to clean beer brewing equipment. They sell it in home-use sized containers for home brewers. It’s basically oxyclean plus some surfactants and other additives that will absolutely destroy any and all burnt on organics with just a couple minutes soak. The downside is getting another tray or tub big enough to hold the air fryer tray. Mix with near boiling water for max effect.

  @christianselig mine is also worn and the battery doesn’t hold a charge, but I’m seriously considering cracking it open to do a battery swap myself for these prices.

  I’m old enough to remember when iPhone “attention aware” meant I could scroll my lock screen notifications and it wouldn’t turn off mid-scroll BECAUSE I WAS LOOKING AT IT

  @christianselig true enough, though sometimes I just like the zen of fixing a thing. If I counted every minute doing things I enjoy as wasted value I’d be in a pretty dark place.

  @caseyliss every time this happens to me it’s because I got “creative” and changed the file or directory permissions/owner, or touched my NFS (*ding!*) export config. I saw your post about proxmox, it’s going to be one of these :(

  @cabel I had a job that took me up and down the I-5 corridor through the 10’s and a bit into the pandemic. I loved that mural the handful of times I was in there. Thanks for saving it from demolition :) it brought back some fond memories.
