I have a &#39;smart&#39; power socket which switches a single thing on and off once a day. I set it up by pairing it to a temporary wifi access point that _isn&#39;t_ shared with anything else (partly because I don&#39;t trust it and partly because it sits on the very edge of wifi). Every now and then it forgets what it is doing and switches on at a &#39;random&#39; time. I suspect it is sulking because it can&#39;t talk to the mothership (or NTP?). Anyone else...

10 years ago, I bought a second hand ev. It was 4 years old and had massively depreciated. I planned to use it as a runabout, for trips to the airport, shops etc for a year or two until the battery gave out. Yesterday 3 of us did a comfortable air conditioned 35 mile trip in it, parked it on a charger, did our errands, had lunch and tootled back an additional 35 motorway miles. The range is 20% down on what it was when I got it, but still useful. One of my best investments :-)

There is an absolute storm of weird RFC proposals coming out of the AI 'community'. They all relate to finding, validating, linking and paying AI agents. None of them make any sense to me or (as far as I can tell) the (other?) greybeards. I guess the IETF is seeing the effect of lowering the cost of writing plausible drivel. Some of it might be useful, but it is so, so hard to tell.

Corners of the internet are still strangely wonderful. An interesting thing is happening in my orbit. Several enthusiastic AI early adopters (who's past works I respect) are starting to publish think pieces about 'how to get the best out of AI' . One is about how to stop AI cheating at tests, another about how to get repeatable results, a third about how we aren't thinking about AI right and finally one about how dull AI text is to read. So I think these folks have started to put their enthusiasm aside and started to see the inher...
