Hey Fedi privacy folks! Can public school systems in the US share student and family data with any 3rd party they choose? Can they do so if the school hasn't shared a data privacy policy? It's my understanding of FERPA that parents have to be given a copy of that policy + opt in. Maybe I'm wrong, tho. I was just on a call with Count Us In, and they feel like an authentic and well-organized group doing much needed work. I don&#39;t accept the biased hype that AI is inevitable. Very few things are, and there aren&#39;t reliable reasons to support AI&#39;s inevitability. Most things in public life, in fact, involve layers and layers of choices by people somewhere - maybe even yours and mine, eh? Once we know contexts, harms, (the few) benefits, and facts around AI, shouldn&#39;t that knowledge inform our choices to act where we can? That doesn&#39;t sound like purity culture.
