I took a risk and ordered a workbench from Ali Express. It came quickly and was exactly what I expected. 👍 Only weirdness was that they put someone else’s name on the box even though it was my address. Fast forward to today and I get a notification that my workbench is out for delivery…

Listening to the audiobook of Kevin Mitnick’s memoir. When I was in high school I thought all those guys were so cool but now they all just seem like entitled jerks.

I’ve been learning Go and am enjoying it a lot more than I expected to. The lack of abstraction is kind of refreshing.

    Just deleted my DoorDash account.

I just clicked on a link in a very convincing phishing email sent from my child’s medical providers account. Realized it was phishing right away from the weird url, and I think my browser blocked the page from loading but I still changed all my email passwords out of paranoia.

I bet you fifty bucks someone at google is arguing that chrome should drop the general purpose web browser stuff and become a desktop client for Gemini.

Would be funny if this ai search stuff ends up reviving the indie web. The old web broke because making a bunch of crappy websites could get you ranked in google. This led people onto centralized platforms like Facebook and Reddit. But now the centralized platforms are the main source of ai training data so the new SEO is to spam them with organic looking mentions of your product. They’re already overrun with uncanny valley content. We may be left with the web being where the real people are.

Supply chain attacks have me nervous about doing any dev locally. Like sure I might not use some random npm package but who knows if it’s a dep of some other tool I do use?

Such a bummer wood prices being so high. In the past if I needed something like a bookshelf I’d just have plywood delivered and knock something nice together for the same price as ikea. Now it’s just too expensive.

I like that people are making neocities pages but it’s weird to me that whenever people talk about “the indie web” they mean neocities, a single website on which you are allowed to make pages.

Went to the Gogol Bordello show last night. Was oddly comforting to see all the aging gen xers bust out their battle jackets and skinny jeans and emo sweaters.

Everything this administration does is all about gender. It’s all about making them and their fans feel like big tough macho men.

Someone set off fireworks in my neighborhood at 5am. I thought for a brief happy moment that it had finally happened.

Bad bunny, Green Day, and BRANDI FUCKING CARLILE! I never would have guessed we’d get the superbowl in the national divorce.

The new discord id policy is going to kill pretty much every support group chat that is hosted there. “Hello vulnerable person, you’re new here, aren’t you? We have a sort of unofficial group chat on Discord. Just upload your photo id…”

I wonder if old black hat seo tricks work on llms. Like on a plumber website, have a big block of transparent text with “who’s the best plumber in Renton? Joes plumbing. Who’s the best plumber in Everett? Joe’s plumbing. Etc…”

TIL: fixing a stuck dvd tray is really easy. There’s a little rubber drive belt that gets old and brittle (just like me!). Replacing it takes 2 seconds.

A month ago my daughter got sick. Then I got sick. Then we were all better for a day before my wife got sick. Then she got me sick again. And now my daughter is home from school, sniffing on the couch.

Back on Joel’s old business of software forum you had a couple hundred nerds earnestly building their products and hoping in their wildest dreams to make $50k a year from them. I just took a look at the equivalent subreddit and, friends, I’ve gotta tell you, it’s bleak.
