I'm a middle-aged single dad living on the Atherton Tablelands, Australia. I work in Aged Care. Hobbies include tabletop roleplaying games, casual computer gaming, and short hikes. One of my clients is 100 years old. If you met her, you'd probably guess she's about 80. It's remarkable.

In a few of the sagas about the settling of Iceland, there is a mention of throwing high-seat poles overboard, and claiming the land where they wash ashore. It's a will of the gods type thing. I'm going to assume it never actually happened, as fun as it is to imagine a bunch of cold and tired vikings searching hundreds of kilometers of coastline for where the pillars washed up, if they didn't just float out to sea. But there is another suggestion. The settlers would hav...

Something to consider. You know how people say that Nordic socialism only works because they're monolithic cultures? a) they're not really, except maaaybe Iceland b) I strongly suspect that's just coded talk for saying everything would be great without the dark people

I just watched Fight Club for the first time since it came out. Great movie. But sad that a lot of people watched it and the message they took home was "fight clubs are cool".

I'm playing #Valheim, musing on how cozy the early game is, and how unrelentingly brutal it becomes by late game. I currently have a relay of portals, after going through five ships and about three hours of real time trying to retrieve some equipment, and dying many more times along the way. I do this for fun ...

I like to find the original songs that more famous songs sample. Often they are better than the sampling tune. This one isn't really to my taste, but it kind of shows how lazy Moby was (though I like his song). https://youtu.be/rS-tm788tok?si=cND2sjDrBNOtd1zn

In the 1930s, the British Interplanetary Society developed the world's first space suit. This is a replica of what would have been a functional suit (as best the science of the day could predict), not a fanciful costume. People, we could have had moon knights.
