Is computational history a thing now? 🤔 What does the term (and practice) even mean? 🤷‍♀️ I made an attempt… But please do discuss with me and share your definitions! https://latex-ninja.com/2026/06/21/opportunities-and-limitations-of-computational-history/ #dh #digitalhistory #digitalhumanities

Are you also starting to get tired of the constant gesturing that we need better Research /#AIEthics that doesn’t lead anywhere?😵‍💫 Better data leads to better research. That might sound obvious, but in practice, it’s often not where the attention goes. In conversations about #AI, #DH, or computational research, the spotlight usually lands on models. Topics and approaches that don’t easily translate into numbers end up sidelined. A rant. Read more: https://latex-ninja.com/2026/05/17/why-looking...

Looking for an overview on critical concerns when using LLMs? 🤔 Check out my chapter in the just appeared edited collection "Understanding Science with Large Language Models?". Congrats to us all, esp. the editors! 🥳 @mzichert @awuethr @anwagnerdreas @hmeding #dh #histsci #llm #ai https://www.transcript-verlag.de/978-3-8376-7994-6/understanding-science-with-large-language-models/

When #DataFeminism came out in 2020, it felt like a perfect match for Digital Humanities. Here was a framework that took data seriously as a site of power, bias, and politics: exactly the kind of concerns some #dh scholars have been circling for years. And yet, a few years on, I can’t say the field has really embraced it.😢 Why is that? https://latex-ninja.com/2026/05/31/why-the-digital-humanities-havent-embraced-data-feminism/

RE: https://fedihum.org/@sarahalang/116673007554262774 The results are in! This poll about #DataFeminism in #DH really surprised me 😱 My line of thought was that DF is misunderstood in DH but most people think DH simply doesn’t care. Important concerns about the term feminism were raised in the responses. If you responded, could you elaborate more that your line of thinking was? 🤔

Women are just less ambitious? It’s what male professors truly believe apparently. This paper is an absolute must read read! ⬇️ https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/share/TVEQQPEE8TTDJKN5WAQ8?target=10.1111/1468-4446.70095 #academia #gender #feminism

Worried about the environmental impact of using #LLMs in (#DH ) research, but not sure where to start? I got you covered! We reviewed the research and ran a #DigitalHumanities case study with carbon reporting, sharing tools, code & all the info we collected: Lang, Sarah et al. “Quantifying the Environmental Footprint of Curating Datasets with LLMs”. Zenodo, December 11, 2025. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.17902822. (#DHd #GreeningDH)

Do you also find this anti-critical stance concerning that is on the rise everywhere and even in #DH ? I argue we need to start guesstimating the environmental impacts of #llm workflows. Carbon reporting is not the solution to all our problems but it is a first step. https://latex-ninja.com/2026/04/26/guesstimating-environmental-impacts-of-llm-workflows/

The #TeXLaTeX Ninja is back with a deliberately provocative title! Is Distant Viewing a Scam?! Distant Viewing, the application of computer vision methods to Humanities data in the spirit of Distant Reading, is a well established part of Computational Humanities. But is it a scam? Does anybody have first hand #DigitalHumanities experience with SAM3? The web demo is crazy good, also with historical data but we found that performance unfortunately doesn’t really translate to actually using the model (had similar experiences with earlier versions of it). At the same time, I’m a fan of SAM so it would be great to be able to get it live up to its promise 😅 #DHd2026 #DH afterthoughts

RE: https://fedihum.org/@ZfdG/116097637185108043 „Data Feminism“ appeared in 2020. How come its practices are still not established in #DigitalHumanities? If anything, the interest seems to have somewhat died down 😕 We provide an overview of its principles tailored to #DH. No more excuses! Read our working paper ⬇️ and put it into practice! #DHd2026 #datafeminism #feminism PS: Take part in the open public review process!
