@RolandRides@mastodon.social @bert_hubert Instead of cloning the predatory Amazon/Google/Microsoft cloud model, perhaps this is a opportunity to do something different? There are a few services that you probably should not try to build yourself, like account management. These things are almost always WORSE when you try to do innovative things. This is my friend Mike Lewis, who went by his middle name, Casper. When I was a graduate student at the UC Davis Genome Center, he was the system administrator who made most of my research possible. He was goofy, positive, friendly, curious and brilliant. Last week, on his way to work, he was run down by a tractor and killed.

SuchTree 1.3 is out! If you want to build metrics that include a phylogenetic component (like UniFrac), SuchTree is a fast, memory efficient, thread-safe way to load massive trees, link them to your data structures, and query them. Now with awesome documentation & working examples! https://suchtree.vort.org

So I built a tool specifically for building and running a math/code/science heavy research blog on top of it. Allow me to present... mkprof. It's just a pip install away. https://mkp...
