Mornings. Mornings never change. Since the dawn of humankind, when our ancestors first discovered the horrible power of the sun rousing them from their slumber, waking up has hardly improved. The Mesopotamians cursed the rooster. The Victorians paid knocker-uppers to bang on their windows with sticks. Today we subject ourselves to obnoxious ringtones at 7:00 AM that trigger a visceral fight-or-flight response that would make a sabertooth tiger blush. We have harnessed the power of the roasted be...

I want to build a 80x25 character display of out of 16 segment (plus dot) white LED modules. I found some four character modules that are 40.4x16mm, so I could do 40 80.8x80mm boards for a total of 808x400mm, and based on the 5mA per segment at 3V, about 500W max power draw, though multiplexing seems obligatory here. The problem is I would have to solder tens of thousands of connections since SMD versions of these don't seem to exist. cc @gsuberland@chaos.social #HardwareHacking #Electr...

My dual Radxa ROCK 5 ITX build continues to be cursed. The NVMe drive died. Uncorrectable read errors. I will accept some amount of blame for buying a £40 Acer-branded BIWIN drive. I guess I'll switch to a mirrored pair of 480GB Intel D3-S4610 series SSDs from the boneyard. On the upside, if I haven't already mentioned it, I did get the replacement rack ear for the 2U dual Mini ITX chassis. The second Radxa ROCK 5 ITX needs to be sent back to China for "repair" which I assum...

I had the leftover coffles for breakfast. They toasted nicely in the oven!

Why is my quad channel relay board being flaky? Switching 12V should not be this difficult.

I made waffles with espresso powder. They are called coffles. I can barely taste the espresso powder, but I used enough that I may regret this once the caffeine hits.

Partner: gets up to smell the first coffle off the waffle iron Partner: That does not smell appetizing at all. Partner: You get to eat it.

    Coffles are happening.

What if I mixed espresso powder in with the waffle batter?

Dual Radxa ROCK 5 ITX in a 2U chassis build status: Got one board flashed with EDK2, need to install Debian. The other, warped board, is going back to Radxa. They say they're going to repair it and send it back. I assume this means migrate the RAM to a new board. The tracking on the replacement rack ear has finally shown an update after over a week. My brother is going to mill me some custom mounting plates out of aluminum scrap on a CNC router. The international shipping is cheaper than...
