So, I have run the numbers, and a PoE toaster running Linux is actually very feasible, and could be built for about £350.
It would need batteries, but at that price point it could have enough to make eight slices of toast.

@ryanc@infosec.exchange @kajer@infosec.exchange how long would it take to recharge this toaster? Given toasters in residential environments are used in bursts, it seems to me that the "Make or break" is whether it would be recharged before the next use.
