Remember when people lost their fucking minds for some secret project called just "it" or "Ginger"? And all the tech luminaries - people like Steve Jobs - claimed this amazing secret thing would completely revolutionize transportation? That entire city infrastructures would be redesigned around it? And then it turns out it was the Segway? This is a post about the tech industry as a whole.

Holy crap is our energy distribution system fucked and fragile beyond repair: https://kmph.com/news/local/california-leaders-report-four-to-six-weeks-worth-of-gasoline-and-diesel-in-supply CA has 4-6 weeks of fuel left. Because we import so much processed fuel. From other countries. Partially for environmental reasons, but that's a screen... Ultimately it's because this system allows energy owners and investors to extract more money, which is more important to them than thi...

Everyone told me having a teenager would suck. Yeah, he's weirdly emotional - so was I at that age. But it's unbelievably gratifying to hang out and spend time with him. I miss my little boy for sure. But I love the man he's becoming. Kids: I highly recommend them.

Unpopular opinion: I have no idea why everyone worships Anthony Bourdain. What is the deal with him? Even before he ended his life, everyone seemed to love him. I only know him as an irascible chef. They're dime a dozen. Why this guy specifically?

Completed my ballot. Straight ticket Peace and Freedom Party, otherwise I wrote in "Nobody". If you believe this is me throwing away my vote... Then you clearly do not believe in Democracy, and any vote is, therefore, wasted and useless.

"From Worldcom to Enron, from crypto to AI, the point of the bubble wasn't ever the residue or lack thereof – it was a transfer from working people to crooks. Bubbles are a system for moving the painfully sequestered life's savings of people who do things to people who steal things." Preach, brother. https://pluralistic.net/2026/05/07/dump-the-pumpers/

Angine de Poitrine inspired my son to try putting zip ties on his bass to mess with microtones for fun. So... good band.

If I didn't believe an ethical life was worth living, and if my sense of ethics weren't so deeply tied to a belief in observing the basic respect and dignity I believe is due to every living being... I'd be ***SO FUCKING RICH***. Because wealth is built entirely by prioritizing money, power, and influence over basic humanity. Wealth is built by burning the decency out of you. Wealthy people are miserable, lonely husks of human beings. Stop supporting them. #General...

In a world in which trust has so eroded, April Fools isn't just a bad idea, it's downright offensive and harmful. We can only play games with trust when we have trust. Otherwise, it's just cruel torture.

They say the reason so much work is sent out of America is that Americans demand too much pay. Anyone who has ever tried to start a business knows the real costs are in - Rent, because all the land is already owned - Materials - controlled by cartels owned by the same rich assholes who own all the land - Equipment - offshore manufacturing all under contract by - hey, look at that! - the same perverts. These greedy fuckers do nothing but steal the value we create. #GeneralStrike

If you consider yourself a "liberal", you should probably stop. Liberalism exists on the same spectrum as what we conventionally call "conservatism". The only difference is deciding "who should make the rules for everyone else." aka "Who should be in charge". If you think "someone should be in charge", you need to re-evaluate that thinking. All of our unnecessary misery derives from decisions made by p...

Trying to be a trusting, friendly person has opened many doors for me. It's also led me down an awful lot of scams. Good thing I never have any money and am very tight with it when I do. And I can generally sniff most "pig butchering" style scams pretty quickly. Sometimes I just like to see how they're going to play out - what's the move? But I'm always left with an empty sense of sadness... Because these scams prey on loneliness and de...
