Since I drew my regular mermaid so early in the month, I decided to show what she likes to get up to: pressing herself up against the viewing domes of submersibles used in marine research to say hello. True fact: dozens of undersea expeditions are lost each year due to mermaids compelling scientists to let them into their vessels.   [A Troublesome Pair] Two elven mages who are a little too fond of swindling others and finding their way into and out of trouble. Let's call them Beatrice and Corinne.   I did not expect to finish another drawing so soon, but it's been irritatingly humid lately and I have important work my brain is desperately trying to avoid focusing on. A tiefling mage dressed for laundry day, casting a spell. Also a study in perspective, which often confuses my artist brain as to whether the proportions are correct or I've just drawn a really short person.   My contribution to #Mermay this year, finished sooner than I intended, because I was supposed to be working on something else and yet am easily distracted by glamorous aquatic hybrids. I've gone big on the hair again. Sometimes I wonder if there is such a thing as too much hair; judging by the reception to some of my other 'big hair' drawings, the answer is apparently not.   [Out of Place] A small drawing project that went in an odd direction. Another 'modern elf', this one seems to have gotten herself a little lost.   Elf in a Leather Jacket Another entry in my 'elves in modern garb' series that has apparently become a thing. Mostly just drawing for fun while I plan a flat move. A bit more experimentation with glossy surfaces, in this case the leather jacket. I should probably put more care into my backgrounds, though I guess there's a bit of a return-to-nature vibe?   Mermaid expressions... It's been a while since I did one of these: taking a photo reel of someone pulling different expressions, then trying to draw them for a character, in this case a mermaid (or alien, maybe?). I still struggle with making my characters' expressions lively (and consistent between drawings!); I also don't necessarily want to go too far into caricature...at least, not all the time.
