  is zorin os still the most idiot proof distro out there? my dad's pc is dying and so i nabbed some sub-$100 used laptop with a 3200U in it. my dad is so tech illiterate that i haven't even managed to make him put a password on his account, if he does he'll be locked out within 48 hours because caps lock is too complex for him to comprehend. same with a PIN, he's going to get fucked by num lock. i need to put linux on the thing, hand it to him, and he needs to be able to watch...

  Long shot, but does anyone know how to remove a drawer where an idiot has installed the rails backwards? I can't get my kitchen drawers out because the idiot who installed this kitchen mounted the rails backwards. Meaning the larger rail is mounted to the drawer instead of the inside, and the smaller rail is mounted inside. And the latch to release the drawer is therefore unavailable. Search engines only give me AI slop results

  @mario@don.tbully.me I guess so, how large is your music library anyways for it to cache 500k picutres? Music libraries typically only need one or two images per album + some metadata per artist. At least that's how Jellyfin handles my music.

  @mario@don.tbully.me The heck, my entire database folder is 20M. Granted I don't actually use Kodi for my music, so i "only" have about 5800 anime episodes plus some movies.

  @mario@don.tbully.me How friggin big is your library? I have like ~6000 episodes of weebshit and my database is still only around 20MB LibreELEC still memory leaks so hard I have to reboot it every 48 hours though.

  @wolf480pl@mstdn.io Well yeah, I'm well aware that that's what they were going for. But they basically just said "we'll block bots" with zero example of how the heck they'd manage to do that. We've been trying to block bots and automated attacks ever since the first captcha came along (and realistically before that as well), if we still haven't figured it out, i don't see how these people would have any better chance at doing so.

  @simon_m@infosec.exchange When I switched stuff over to UniFi starting in like 2017 I was stubborn enough to refuse to budge on the "no internet access". So luckily I haven't had to think about any of this at all since all our unifi devices and controllers are on closed VLANs and there's not really any comms besides controller devices, some inter-site-tunnels and the occasional temporary egress to fetch new firmware. I just let the regular update cycles run their course :)

  Some brands in Norway have started slicing their hot dog buns along the top rather than along the side. (Probably because it saves $0.001 per bun thanks to more efficient tooling or something) So you get the most shallow, awkward and useless split possible, where you can barely fit a sausage. And that's about it, you're lucky if you can even fit some ketchup on top without it spilling everywhere. I would like to know how to get the people responsible for this thrown in jail.

  btw, while i was browing around and found out about korean flip phones, i also found out about a device called the "sidephone". It's a proper Android phone in a feature phone form factor, with a replaceable keypad for customization. And it's not some weird trend thing they're charging out the ass for. It's priced like a regular phone at around 200-300€ It's not quite my thing since I want the bigger screen you can fit on a flip phone, but I'm sure someone here...

  I find it a bit sad that Ice have seemingly stopped doing 450MHz LTE in Norway. Probably because no modern client devices support those bands and I reckon they were tired of having to get custom LTE routers all the time. LTE at 450MHz might not have been particularly fast, but the coverage it provided was honestly pretty insane.

The local alternative (finn.no) lets you list stuff with a price and I guess you could message a seller to lowball them, but that's mostly the closest you get to an auction. The used market in Norway just generally sucks imo

Ebay used to be useless, nobody on ebay were willing to ship to Norway, or if they were the shipping would be like $100+ Then all the chinese sellers started popping up and shipped free to Norway. Still not great though, at that point ebay was basically just a worse alternative to AliExpress. But during the past few years, more non-chinese sellers have started shipping stuff to Norway, often with affordable or free shipping. So for me e...
