Your eyes do not deceive you! The cat's out of the bag: I've been collaborating with the @BlueSCSI@hachyderm.io project to make the enclosure and front panel originally designed for PicoIDE common to both! I collabed with @nulleric@mastodon.social on code and @gutbomb@bitbang.social did the 3D design. https://jcm-1.com/product/bluescsi-ultra-front-panel-module/

Dimming the screen for the screen saver on #PicoIDE was boring so I added flying toasters as an option. Sprites borrowed from the PicoPOST project

Any suggestions for how to achieve a nice sharp bend in sheet metal? I’m trying to get as close as possible to the factory-bent bracket on the left. On the right is the best I can get with a vise-mounted press brake. #metalworking

I went to Seattle for #vcfpnw last weekend and it was pretty great! A thread of pictures (read the alt text for extra commentary detail, btw!), starting with a visit to the Interim Computer Museum

I’ll be in Seattle next weekend for #VCFPNW but I’d like to hit some other nerdy places like: - Connections Museum - RE-PC - Ada’s Technical Books & Cafe (which sadly will close in a few months) Any other suggestions?

#VCFPNW is next weekend! I’ll be there and can’t wait!

#PicoGUS can now emulate both a CDROM drive and Sound Blaster in parallel, smoothly playing both CD audio and SB sound effects simultaneously. Still a lot of polish to do before a new firmware release but I'm excited!! This is MechWarrior 2 with bin/cue stored on a USB stick plugged into the PicoGUS

The latest PicoGUS firmware update was a huge fail - lots of breakage everywhere. I rushed its release, and it shows. I'm really starved for time between helping the kids with homework most nights, work on getting PicoIDE to full production, and a demanding day job. I wonder what has to give.

I was bummed the 74XX YouTube channel hadn't uploaded in a while but today was blessed with this amazing video that starts with finding some Wild Gunman film reels and ends with an amazing recreation of the original game. Probably my favorite low sub channel! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOfqnomGPkM

In 1994 when I was in 8th grade I was talking to a friend about careers. He said he wanted to get into computer engineering instead of computer science because computers would learn to program themselves sooner than they’ll be able to design themselves. I’ve been thinking about that a lot recently.

At #RMRRF (BIG 3D printing festival this weekend in Loveland, CO) I caught Zack Freedman (Voidstar Lab)'s talk about creating Gridfinity and it was amazing: the central tenet is creating something so free that it no longer needs you. It made me think a lot about the future of my own projects.

Took an absolutely lovely road trip today to pick up a rare Roland CM-32L that was on Marketplace. I was stretching the range of my 1st gen Leaf but taking the back roads meant prettier views and fewer kWh

Over the past few days I've released some beta firmwares for PicoGUS to address the issues in the v4.1.0 release. This one is basically a release candidate; if it's all good I'll release it as final in a couple days. https://github.com/polpo/picogus/releases/tag/v4.1.1-beta.1

Whoops, I missed my chance to make the “640% should be enough for everybody” joke. But it’s obviously not enough because the PicoIDE campaign keeps going. 6 days left! I’m blown away by how far it’s come. BTW the last update I posted brought even more people with weird systems out of the woodwork!

Last night I installed Windows XP from a PicoIDE so I could test the PicoGUS’s new Sound Blaster 16 support (which should be releasing imminently) in XP

Stumbled through installing HP-UX on a BlueSCSI on this HP 68040 UNIX workstation. I was pretty frustrated it’d only use the serial console but replacing the NVRAM coin cell battery made itremember it had a graphics card installed

Less than 24 hours after launching on Crowd Supply, PicoIDE has doubled its goal. I’m overwhelmed (in a good way) by the response! Thank you so much to everyone that has backed the project so far. https://www.crowdsupply.com/polpotronics/picoide
