  I hate AppImages so much it's unreal. I have literally one single on my system (Beeper) and it's the No. 1 thing that breaks in weird and stupid ways, like constantly renaming the binary to something different after the stupid auto-updater runs. Why tf is there an auto-updater on an app running on a Linux system in 2026? Utterly insane.

  I really hope that whatever platform we collectively move to post-GitHub has a system to prevent what happened with GitHub again. To me, enshittification like this and a slow collapse was inevitable simply because the way it was funded and purchased. That's why I hope that we move to Codeberg. Not for any particular technical merit, but because its values and structure actually align with OSS projects. There is a social system in place to prevent enshittification there.

  Some neat #puregotk & #GStreamer hacks I've been exploring: #Multiplex, which allows you to do torrent watchparties with your friends & share the positions, playback etc. P2P, now has an initial version that uses GStreamer to play back the video in the app itself! No more need for MPV :) Bonus: Subtitles work better now, too!

  Anyways, here is a port of #Sessions (on the left - GTK/libadwaita) to AppKit/macOS 26 with DarwinKit (Golang, too!). Pretty damn close, but there are def. differences around margins, the size of buttons etc. between macOS and GNOME for sure. The macOS app feels “at home” in a way the GTK app doesn’t. macOS also has a nice menu bar ecosystem that while somewhat emulatable via the background portal just isn’t quite the same as on macOS!
