  New neighbors moved into the apartment below mine, removed a built-in closet and found that the back of the closet also held a bunch of cables coming out of the wall from the floors below and going back into the wall to the floors above a few feet further.   My residential internet has been restored, but I lost some 10 Mbit bandwidth in the process. DSL rules. 🙄 But now that we found out where the wire runs, we can get to work and get all those crumbling terminals fixed, eventually.

  I now have experimental proof that pleroma_ctl database prune_objects --prune-orphaned-activities actually terminates. Eventually. And it really does significantly reduce database size.

  I found Jamie Paul's substack / blog the other day, and the only thing I don't like about it is the somewhat cringe name, "American Dreaming". The 'Memory-Holing "Wokeness"' series of articles aligns so perfectly with my perspective on all of the issues discussed in them, it's uncanny.

  They shared experiences are dead and the atomization spiral is irreversible, but did you know that LIDL sells almost the exact same varieties of fresh bread in all of its stores world-wide, including the U.S.?   So ... I can upload mp4 videos and gif images (animated or otherwise). png, webm, jpeg simply don't show in the editor and are never posted. The stuff that does work shows up in the configured folder for uploads ... but I'm noticing the uploads folder now seems to get populated with a hashed directory tree, in the previous version I ran here (2.7.0) it was still just a flat directory and files had very long hashes for names. Anyway I think that rules out a permissions issue. A...

  I finished Caravan SandWitch, a wonderfully chill relaxploration game, whose by-the-numbers-DEI cast of characters and rather generic solarpunk-scifi scenario, more by (I suspect) unintentional implication than conscious intention, ends up transporting some pretty radical messages for a video game ("rainbow capitalism won't save you" and "eco-terrorism is good, actually" among others).

  I have largely ignored generated music up to this point, because music is the art form I'm the most snobbish about, and I'm also pretty picky about sound mix and production, but after checking out Suno 5.5, I would rate it pretty likely that a competently prompted and refined song made by that model could end up in my collection. Even more likely if the model is just used for editing and touching up an already well-made traditional recording. And if the next generation of that...
