I have a New York Times subscription through work and they just raised the limit for gift article sharing from 10 articles per month to unlimited articles per month, so I thought, as an experiment, I'd make this account to share stuff I find interesting and make use of the subscription fully. Follow here if you wanna ----> @nytimes@goto.byrd.ws (and let me know if there are any articles you want to read, and I'll share them)

Another day another company (Origin Energy) leaking my name DOB email phone number bank and credit card details and they're just like *whoooopsie soz* I seriously think companies should be banned from storing customer data until they can learn to store it securely. Or else force them to pay out each customer $50k per breach. That would stop it from happening pretty quick. 🤷

Excited to be seeing The Odyssey as Christopher Nolan intended tonight ... in the old Brisbane IMAX cinema at South Bank that is not actually an IMAX any more but it still has a pretty big screen! :DealWithIt:

I got this little game called 'Mudborne' on special where you play as a small frog-like creature who has to restore a pond to its former glory and it's really cute and fun. https://tngineers.itch.io/mudborne

Such a weird cowardly self own when someone says that a far-right politician "has the courage to say what we're all thinking" and you listen to what they're saying and it's just the most stupid shit imaginable 🫠

RE: https://mastodon.decentralised.social/@wezm/116452866473430023 Bit late to the party but I have just discovered the existence of https://payphonetag.org and it is amazing. I kind of want to go for a wander to the nearest payphone here in Hobart and test it out. But I won't because it's too darn cold. 🥶

I still don't think there's a podcast series made quite as satisfying as Dead Eyes is at coming to a final conclusion. It truly is incredible. Anyone got any other recommendations? https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/dead-eyes/id1494539046

"I think the most important thing to understand if you take anything away from this video is that we are clearly using the wrong policy to fix the inflation because if we cause the inflation by giving money to the rich then the way to fix it is to take money from the rich." Why is this concept so hard for economists and politicians to understand???? 🤔 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcaiTZKlCj4

"Imagine if I were to come to you … and put this proposition to you: I'll sell your house and I'll give you 30% and I'll keep the other 70%, and you should be happy with that because I've just converted an asset into cash. None of you would be stupid enough to do that." https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy02pzxd4y4o

Wikipedia’s founder, Jimmy Wales, has branded the Australian social media ban an “unmitigated disaster” and an “embarrassment” that is teaching kids to accept surveillance from tech companies when they go online. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/may/04/wikipedia-founder-brands-australias-social-media-ban-an-unmitigated-disaster-and-an-embarrassment

I saw a video the other day explaining our persistence in performing the rituals of continual economic growth year after year by likening it to the Cargo Cults that formed in the Pacific after WWII. We're going through the motions of consumption, consumerism, and expansion, hoping that mid-century prosperity drops from the sky again. It's like we're treating infinite growth as a law of nature, a gift from our ancestors, completely ignoring that the system we're running is entir...

“Every country that has tried to build its way out of housing crises without dealing with the underlying problem of inequality and distribution has built a slum. The whole world is filled with these places that have had no restrictions on housing, and they built a massive shanty town outside of their city. “And you think that can’t happen in a country like Australia. I grew up in Ilford, which is a poor suburb of East London...it was a poor suburb for working-class families, and it is now a slu...

This website is incredible --- Between 2009 and 2012, iPhones had a built-in "Send to YouTube" button in the Photos app. Many of these uploads kept their default IMG_XXXX filenames, creating a time capsule of raw, unedited moments from random lives. Inspired by Ben Wallace, I made a bot that crawled YouTube and found 5 million of these videos! Watch them below, ordered randomly. https://walzr.com/IMG_0001
