Seeing people who never post on here get active because it's almost defcon and I want to make like one of those "don't buy a bunny for Easter" PSA's but it's like: "the fediverse isn't just for hackers!" With a montage of the kind of regulars you get on here. We also have: hams, movie buffs, trekies, bicyclists, artists, furries, teachers, gardeners, pets, and the chronically ill! Make a friend today!

Today's discussion topic at the aquarium is "how do we exit the conversation?" If a kid or a tourist wants to wring every last fact out of my brain, I am not going to exit that conversation untill they've gotten everything they can from me. If a history channel brain-rot victim wants to mansplain megalodons? I will argue them down. Basically, I'm not trapped in this nerdy-ass conversation with you, you're trapped with me.

Watching a YouTuber talk about the movie Hoppers, and how movies about environmentalism have gotten worse and it's probably because mass media is too chickenshit to tell a story with an anti-authoritarian theme these days. This is an interesting contrast with the last book I've read: https://www.fantagraphics.com/products/okinawa

we're repeating the thing about highly processed diets are correlated with negative health outcomes without accounting for class/income. turns out being poor is the variable that contributes towards both of those. but I don't think we're gonna talk about socialism and public health today.

It's extremely difficult to get food stamps (SNAP) if you're not taking care of children and you live somewhere where the minimum wage is over federal. However, if you can't afford food, (or you can't afford to live if you do buy food) and you have spare time, it's worth it to check out your local food bank or food pantry. They frequently get food that is very close to the expiration date, so like, if you don't feel deserving enough? Remember: it goes in the trash if n...

Per my last re-toot: Me, in art school being tired of rulers and grids: "when am I gonna need to know formal three point perspective? draftsmanship is outdated, I will just get by with atmospheric perspective and it'll be fine, it worked for Cezanne" Me now: they trained image generating AI on every picture in the entire deviant art corpus and now it does photorealistic images with bad anatomy and shitty perspective like a freshman art student. Me: I'm doing...

Explaining to a new volunteer at the aquarium that one of the perks is handing out praise and positive feedback for good behavior to adults and children. Like, did you know you are now an authority figure and you can say "Good Job!" to people? It's great! Watching her eyes catch fire at this idea.

I mean, if you can have a spirit guide who was an animal, or a native American, why not a guy who probably worked for RCA and keeps assuming Sears is still around?

The instant I'm allowed to paint my own walls again I'm going to become insufferable. You're going to walk in and be immediately aware that I love color and colors love me too.

If you're wondering why I take so many phone breaks, it's because any task that involves standing up and leaning over depletes my stamina wheel proportionally to how far I have to lean. One day, I will build a house where the countertop and the sink and everything are tall enough to be comfortable.

Went to a Lulu party with my wife in Tacoma last night, had fun talking and hanging out outside by the fire pit. I kept trying to bank the fire and let it die down as the party was winding up, but the one guy who was really into burning stuff kept building it back up and adding more stuff. I think I kept him from burning two old adorandak chairs, but I was not quick enough to keep him away from a bunch of nicely milled lumber that seemed to be about to become a raised garden bed. Oh well!

I really like live music but I'm not very musical and I think my wife's entire family looks at this as like, an extremely unfortunate educational oversight that ought to be corrected. like, they way I do when someone can't analyze a text to talk about themes, or draw a reasonable cartoon cat, like, you can pick up a pen, just go for it! So, my beautiful wife had me try out her vintage Omnichord and I am very useless at it, but it was fun.
