Today is National Bluebird of Happiness Day (among many others). It is also a day of trying to diagnose why my old (circa 2014) workstation has started freezing up more frequently. A lot of Elephants have been raised here lately. This referring to the built in linux rescue to reboot. Alt SysRq + R Alt SysRq + E Alt SysRq + I Alt SysRq + S Alt SysRq + U Alt SysRq + B I've tested memory, CPU, and GPU. All seem ok. Using y-cruncher, the CPU never goes above 65.0℃ (the idle temp is 35℃)....

Dr. Richardson’s Letter illuminated the cowardice of the GOP. ——— I am so fucking sick of the cowards and bullies. Time to flush them. Thank you Representative Joyce Beatty, and Representative Thomas Massie. Two who showed courage. ——— https://heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/september-16-2026 #HeatherCoxRichardson #StandUp #ImpeachThemAll

Dr. Richardson’s Letter this morning is a painful read covering the gutless cesspool of cowardice and capitulation that is the GOP. Sickening cowards. One paragraph stood out: “ In The Freedom Academy with Asha Rangappa, counterintelligence scholar Rangappa suggests the Republican senators have gone so far down the road of enabling Trump that they will simply rubber-stamp Blanche. If “you’ve confirmed Pam Bondi, Pete Hegseth, Kash Patel, and Kristi Noem, you’ve funded ICE, you’ve stood by whil...

Two more rare birds reported at the Nature Center, both out of seasonal range, both made the rare bird email list. Osprey - Pandion haliaetus: A large fishing raptor that normally migrates through in spring and fall. Not significantly out of range, but early. Brown Creeper - Certhia americana: A small tree creeper that is one of our winter birds. This is so far out of range, I had to check the sighting to make sure the person was well known and reliable. Both may have been affected by f...

Dr. Richardson’s Letter this morning is both infuriating and terrifying. —— They will gut the National Historical Preservation Act —— “What it means is that the federal government, in its own discretion, can decide whether—if ever—to tell an American community that it’s about to do a major project that could harm or destroy a historic resource. The public will be completely cut out of any conversation around the future of places that matter to them in this country.” “What is at stake is mo...

An American Bittern was sited out at the Nature Canter, which came across the rare bird email listing. These are reclusive, cryptic herons that should not be here this time of year. We seen them (rarely) during spring migration, but not during summer. I wonder if the fires and smoke in Canada and northern US are the reason for the early movement. #BirdsOfFediverse #BirdPhotography #AmericanBittern #DarkTable

The choice this morning was to scream, and say several things that would likely have the SS at my door or find something soothing to post. I went with a happy place #LandscapePhototgraphy #Sunrise #MonumentValleyNavajoTribalPark #FuckTrump #FuckGOP #FuckICE

Solitary Sandpiper today, on the migration north to nesting grounds. This one exhibited the "wings up" behavior that seems to be part of its self-care practice. #BirdsOfFediverse #BirdPhotography #SolitarySandpiper #DarkTable #EndTheMadness #ItJustGetsWorse #GOPIsKKK

Dr. Richardson’s Letter this morning is a stark reminder of the divide in the ‘senate’. Quoting: “Senate majority leader John Thune (R-SD) said yesterday he would not challenge Trump’s novel interpretation of the War Powers Act, in part, he said, because Senate Republicans have given him no reason to. Republicans have no interest in voting to support Trump’s unpopular war, and yet don’t want to buck Trump. So they are choosing to abdicate their constitutional responsibilities.‘ … https://he...

Dr. Richardson’s Letter captures the GOP bait and switch perfectly. ——— I am so sick of gop hatred, lies, grift, and criminality. It feels like we are caught in an evil carny stealing our money, our identity our humanity. Story of a hawk. This was several years ago, but still warm in my heart. Noticed a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks building a nest directly above one of the major trails at the Nature Center (about 10 meters up). Both took turns sitting on the nest to incubate, through even the worst storms. This is the chick that hatched. The chance to watch this chick grow and fledge was a thrill. The description on All About Birds is perfect ... "a Red-shouldered Hawk is typically a sign of tall w...

Bald Eagles are a fairly common sighting in and around the Nature Center, but always a thrill. There are three nesting pairs in the vicinity, so visitors will see adults, fledglings and every molt state as the young birds mature. Members of the Order Accipitriformes - the largest Order of diurnal raptors - Bald Eagles fall in the Accipitridae Family with Hawks and Kites (and other Eagles). Wonderful to see the interactions between the breeding pairs, and between adults and their fledgling as...

Just a thought after all the vitriol Every day should be LGBTQIA+ awareness and support day- valuable and vulnerable community trying to live their lives and contribute to their communities. They threaten no one, and should be allowed to live and love as they are, no judgement, no harassment, no forced (false) conversion therapies. Every conservative religious zealot attacking this community needs to look at themselves in the mirror, slap themselves, hard, and ask — Is this this what my fait...

Grateful that yesterday was TACO Tuesday. Angry that so many have died in an illegal war for the ego of a worthless 💩 maniac. The photo below is my current (and likely future) mood toward any Republican. Yesterday was my last voluntary work day for a while. A car accident in 1973 that crushed left side of my body has finally caught up, so time replace the right knee (and perhaps the left). Can't gut through the daily grinding pain any longer so it's time (10 years ago as my...

Working on photos yesterday, and remembered a shot from 20 years ago with a digital camera of the time (Olympus C-8080). Loved that camera - shot jpg (3264x2448 pixels). Decided to see what I could do with a photo taken at Swiftcurrent Lake (2006). Fun time wit the photo, and wonderful memories of the family trip. #MountainMonday #MonochromeMonday #LandscapePhotography #SwiftcurrentLake #GlacierNationalPark #DarkTable #NoWar #NoKings

Back to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon for the Pygmy Nuthatch - the last Nuthatch I have any images of. These are tiny birds (~10cm long) that forage in ponderosa pine forests. Their occurrence is spotty, limited primarily to higher elevations in the western US. Their call is unique, rather much like a squeaky toy. #BirdsOfMastodon #BirdPhotography #PygmyNuthatch #DarkTable #NoWar #ResistTyranny
