  I use disappearing messages with Signal on several conversations, so that messages only exist for 1-3 days before auto deleting. The other day i signed into Signal on my laptop and about a month's worth of messages populated into these conversations and then dutifully deleted themselves a few seconds later. Messages that -- in theory -- were long gone. Does anyone know why this is so? I understand Signal has to cache messages so that people who are offline can receive them later, but it see...

  I'm not sure if this is just me getting older or what, and I've been a Linux user for over 20 years now, but for the last few months the predominant feeling I get when booting up my laptop is *gratitude*. It really is remarkable how much work and effort and ingenuity and genius went into this system. And I can just... *have* it? Like, for nothing? And then people will just *help* me with it? Just because? Wild.

  Working with cardboard SUCKS and I cannot recommend doing it, but I made a lampshade and it came out really well.
