  Late to the party, but I really enjoyed Jane Harper’s 2016 mystery novel The Dry. What a debut! The story takes place in rural Victoria, Australia and she really conveys a different place and the people. Lovely writing, terrific descriptions, realistic-feeling dialogue. I listened to the audiobook, so Stephen Shanahan pronounced everything correctly for me. It won a bunch of awards.
