It&#39;s been a lovely week of medically-enforced not doing anything very much; I&#39;ve &quot;finished&quot; a video game, and started to think about some of the other random technology backlog I had for myself that I&#39;d never get to. However, things being what they are, Monday is tomorrow and ... &lt;record scratch&gt; Nope. I have 3 more weeks of medically-enforced not doing anything very much. For once, Monday is just &quot;tomorrow&quot;.

NBN is upgrading HFC in our area which means we keep losing internet connectivity at random. Bad enough that I bought a Netgear LM1200 and set it up as the failover connection on the UniFi gear. Pretty straightforward, and yanking the cable on the primary link failed over within a couple of seconds. Cool beans!

Yay I love a 5 second complete blackout. Power has been flaky enough of late that I can pretty much justify enough UPS for a 15 min runtime with a solid margin of safety.

migrating data from an older QNAP with larger drives into a TrueNAS config with some mixed-size drives and I&#39;m doing horrible, horrible things using a temporary zpool of mixed RAIDZ1 and mirrored partitions ... but I swear I sort of know what I&#39;m doing

Trying to work out why this (old) laptop won’t run on battery. It’s charged, and it sees the battery as present, but removing the adapter just powers it off as if it didn’t have a battery at all. When I look at the reported energy level of the battery it says 0, capacity 0, and 0 power now. I don’t think this thing has a CMOS battery …
