When Apple said they were going to raise prices in response to the RAM shortage, they weren’t joking. $$$!

@stroughtonsmith How long did the system need to think through the code and the decompiled ROM? Multiple Agents or a single thread? Amazing work Steve, and your robot friend/s! 🤩

@asymco The Australian Gov is rolling out its Solar Sharing scheme. An unexpected abundance of electricity produced by Solar rooftop panels in Queensland, NSW and South Australia has resulted in negative electricity prices for 3 hrs in the middle of the day. As of today, any household in those states can sign up to an electricity plan that gives them 24Kwh over 3 hours in the middle of the day, for free. That’s 30-45% of a car battery recharge, per day. ‘Straya! ☀️ https://www.theguardian...

Looks like the Australian Ski Season, at least in Victoria, is going to be barely three weekends long. In the 1980s, it was at least 3 months. Only thirty years ago, there was a an enormous amount of accommodation built at Mt Buller, Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain. Today, it’s hard to see how the any of Australia’s Alpine resorts can maintain a semblance of economic feasibility over the coming decade. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/jul/21/australian-ski-resorts-smash-july-clima...

@dhh Playing around with Omarchy on an Intel NUC for the first time, after 25 years of using MacOS as my primary development environment. On the go access from a 5g iPad. Productive within the first 10 minutes. The installer is a Linux fever dream. Completed from go to woe in 94 seconds. Wow! 🤩 What a breath of fresh air! Phenomenal!

@Sustainable2050 This year, the snowfall across the Australian Alps has been the lowest, since 1973. This comes after a decade of low snowfalls. It’s not just the ski resorts and their staff who are economically impacted. Lower snowfall melt impacts the irrigation flows for farmers along the Murrumbidgee and Murray rivers, and consequently the cost of food at Australian Supermarket till.

@asymco For August 2026, 5 of the top ten Car Brands in Australia are now Chinese (including the Shanghai sourced Teslas). The majority of sales are electric or hybrid. 6 months ago the list was mostly Japanese, Korean or US diesel Utes. (The bigger, the better.)

Queensland could approach accessible, cheap and egalitarian transport by building out a state-wide micro-mobility network over the next 10 years, using the Olympics as a catalyst. Across the State, Queensland has ideal weather for micro-mobility. Instead we get electric powered micro-mobility restrictions… https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2026/sep/06/queensland-new-ebike-rules-older-people-independence

@caseyliss I’ve found it very useful when working in languages I know but don’t use everyday. For example, there are so many idioms in C++ it’s hard to keep up if you aren’t using it week to week, or mostly work in less sprawling languages. It’s also been surprising good at refactoring old code, that ‘should’ be updated for any number of reasons, but would take a chunk of time from other work that pushes a product forward. The refactoring has been surprisingly good. 👍

@johnquiggin A lot of being a Tradie is knowing your trade’s Australian Building Code and Standards inside out, back to front, upside down and right side up. That comes from well run TAFE courses and apprenticing in a Building Culture that upholds construction standards. Migration won’t fix the loss of cultural norms deconstructing the Apprentice System, privatizing Australian Standards, privatizing Building Certification, and effectively privatizing State Works Departments has caused.

@aj @n_dimension Zehra has a fantastic Youtube channel that is doing a great job showing Australians, and the world, just how broken our Construction Industry is. Like many symptoms of Australia’s growing inequity, there’s a bifurcated system where those who can afford it, pay a lot more and get a much better standard of construction, and there are those who unfortunately think the old system that ensured quality construction is still in place.

@caseyliss @marcoarment @siracusa @gruber Hello Gentleman, My kid just innocuously updated to the latest version of Pages for iPad. An App lovingly used for many years. Upon printing a document with the new version, we were met with the message that it would be printed with a watermark after a 3 month grace unless we subscribed to Apple Studio. 😳 Unfortunately my kid dismissed the pop-up before I could screen shot it.🤷♂️ WTAF Apple? This is the Boeing path: shareholders before products.

My 2010 Mac Pro, which still effortlessly runs a suite of legacy BIM/CAD Apps that can’t run in VMs thanks to the joys of hardware dongles, just beeped in sorrow. Apple has discontinued the Mac Pro. 😔
